2011 Preparedness Fair Recap

SO SAD that I didn't see more of you there! What a great group of displays & folks with so much information to share!

I have added my information to the sidebar ( right here ------------>>>>>>>>>>> )

For those of you I met for the first time, THANKS so much for letting me share with you something I am so passionate about. I believe that organization is what allows us to feel peace and assurance at almost every juncture of life; not every moment is going to be joyous or easy, but time spent in the details beforehand will surely reduce some stress & frustration.

I've also enabled the follow by email function of the blog, so please put your email in and follow the instructions to receive updates to this blog via your email.

October 2011 Preparedness Article

 A Time to Prepare

Time is never for sale; time is a commodity that cannot, try as you may, be bought at any store for any price. Yet when time is wisely used, its value is immeasurable. On any given day we are all allocated, without cost, the same number of minutes and hours to use, and we soon learn, as the familiar hymn so carefully teaches, “Time flies on wings of lightning; we cannot call it back” (“Improve the Shining Moments,” Hymns, no. 226). What time we have we must use wisely. President Brigham Young said, “We are all indebted to God for the ability to use time to advantage, and he will require of us a strict account of [its] disposition” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young [1997], 286).

Life Care Planning

The Arizona Attorney Generals Office has some great online resources available to help you get your affairs organized. Wills & medical directives can be expensive to create if going through an attorney, CPA or other authorized agent, but the State of Arizona has provided basic documents that can be obtained from them in various ways (downloading & printing from home being one of them) & filled in by you. You can then take the documents to a Notary Public and sign them in their presence. This is a very inexpensive way to prepare these documents for yourself & your family.

Follow Joyously

In an interesting book entitled The Richest Man in Babylon, the story is told of a poor scribe who bargained with the rich man for his formula for economic success. That early Babylonian gave a surprisingly simple answer: “A lean purse is easier to cure than endure.
“… learn to make your treasure work for you. Make it your slave.
“Pay for what you eat and wear but pay yourself as well.” (George S. Clason, The Richest Man in Babylon, New York: Hawthorne Books, 1955, p. 31.)

Family Preparedness Manual

I have created a Family Preparedness Manual (FPM) that is a great way to organize essential documents and family information. In an emergency of any kind, whether leaving your home or not, having your most important information readily available is VITAL!
Please leave a comment or contact me directly if you are interested in starting your own FPM.

Honeyville Farms

I saw some adds for Honeyville Farms on T.V. awhile back, so we ventured over there the other day. I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of products available! Their staff is very knowledgeable & very friendly! I was not sure what to expect so we brought our stroller, but they have standard carts & flatbed carts, so save the space in your trunk for goodies & leave the stroller at home.  They offered us samples of their freeze dried fruits & vegetables (the pineapple is AMAZING) & they hold classes each month on a variety of topics. I called a friend in Idaho who does a lot of bulk shopping & has a great list of "never pay more than..." & on her list 50 lbs. of unbleached flour should never cost more than $35, but she never pays more than $30; at Honeyville Farms I paid $20.46 which is roughly 41 cents a pound. I have not priced Wal-Mart recently, but Costco runs about a dollar a pound for 40 pounds already in a food safe bucket (even with the cost of a new bucket only I paid 57 cents & I also got 50 pounds not 40. If you are interested in going & have any questions please call me!
